4-H County Wide Public Speaking Contest
Public Speaking is a 4-H event that many people seem to remember fondly. A project that encourages youths from 4-12 grades to speak in front of others, the Public Speaking Contest is a traditional 4-H event.
Members who participate gain confidence and experience in an area that is the biggest fear of many people. They learn to speak up and be proud of their courage.
The Lawrence County 4-H County Wide Public Speaking Contest will be held on Monday, January 14, 2013, at E.O. Coffman Middle School. Registration begins at 5:30 and the contest begins at 6.
Members in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades who participated in the classroom are invited to compete. Youths from 7th through 12th grades are also invited to attend.
Fourth graders should have a speech about a character trait that lasts from 1 to 2 minutes.
Fifth graders should have a speech about a role model who inspires them that lasts from 2-3 minutes.
Sixth graders should also have a speech about a science career they’d like to have that lasts 3-4 minutes.
Seventh and eighth graders should have a speech about 4-H that lasts 4-5 minutes.
Ninth through twelfth graders should have a speech that promotes 4-H that lasts from 5-7 minutes.
